Delanco Township receives its current name from a contraction of “Delaware” and “Rancocas” (the river and creek that border the community). It was established in 1848 as a summer treat. Originally incorporated as Beverly Township in 1859, it changed to its present name in 1926. According to the Census Bureau, its total area is 3.4 square miles, of which almost two thirds are land (73.45%).
As of the 2000 census, there were 3,237 people. The population density was very high at 1,301.1 people per square mile. There were 892 families and 1,285 housing units in 2000.

In 2000, the median age of the population was 37 years. Practically a fourth (24.9%) was under the age of 18. More than half (54.6%) were between the ages of 25 and 64 years. There were more people 65 years of age and older than those 18 to 24 (7.3% versus 13.3%). For every 100 adult females, there were 92.7 males.
