General Woodcliff Lakes Information
Woodcliff Lake was initially formed as the Borough of Woodcliff in 1894, from areas of the townships of Orvil and Washington. The name was changed to its present denomination in 1910.
It is a fashionable New York City suburb, located about 20 miles northwest of Manhattan. Almost all the residential development is comprised of single-family detached houses on lots of 15,000 square feet or greater. BMW is the principal landowner of the borough where it has its North American headquarters.
Its territory encompasses 3.606 square miles, thinly populated with 5,730 residents as of the 2010 census. There were 1,980 housing units. City-data estimated the 2009 median house or condo value at $779,651 versus $348,300 statewide and the March 2012 cost of living index as 25.4% higher than the national average.
The 2006-2010 American Community Survey of the Census Bureau estimated (with an 11%-19% margin of error) that the median household income was $150,404 and the median family income $172,019. Males had a median income 61% higher than females ($105,045 versus $65,119). The per capita income was $62,925. (All figures are in 2010-inflation adjusted dollars). Less than 2.0% of the population lived below the poverty line.
The most frequently reported ancestries are Italian (23.0%), Irish (12.9%), and German (11.8%). The rate of foreign-born residents is below the state average (10.1% versus 17.5%). As of the 2010 census, 90.30% of the population was White, 6.47% Asian, and 5.41% Hispanic or Latino of any race (versus 2.33% in 2000).
Of the households recounted in the 2010 census, 42.3% had minors living with them. Married couples living together represented 75.4%. Households composed of non-families and of individuals were 16.5% and 15.0%, respectively. The median age was 41 years. Minors accounted for 27.9% and seniors for 16.4%.
