In 2010, the Police Department consisted of 10 full-time law enforcement employees, 9 of them police officers. The N.J. State Police Uniform Crime registered 63 major crimes in 2010. This results in a crime rate per 1,000 residents of 19.5 and a violent rate of 0.6. There were no murders, rapes, robberies or bias crimes. The reports included 2 assaults, 11 burglaries, 65 incidents of domestic violence, and 10 cases of police force.
Independent data, which does not consider bias crimes, domestic violence or police force, show 50 thefts, one case of arson and no auto thefts.
Netcong, Morris County, New Jersey
Netcong was established as a borough in 1894 from portions of Mount Olive and Roxbury Townships. It is situated on the shores of Lake Musconetcong. Its territory of less than one square mile is home to 2,580 residents as of the 2010 census, up from approximately 3,300 in 2006.
Less than 700 families and about 1,000 existed as of the 2000 census. An unofficial 2009 figure estimated the median house or condo value at $300,442 The January 2011 cost of living index was 16.0% higher than the national average.
As of the 2000 census, the median family income was $65,833. Males had a median income 15% higher than females ($42,179 versus $36,458). The median household income was $55,000 and the per capita income $23,472. According to unofficial 2009 estimates, these rose to $64,205 and $31,883. About 3% of the population was below the poverty line.
The major ancestries are Italian (38.9%), Irish (21.5%), German (17.6%), English (9.1%), Polish (7.5%), and Dutch (4.6%). As of the 2000 census, the racial and ethnic composition was 94.30% White, 7.13% Hispanic or Latino, 1.67% Asian, and 1.20% African American. Foreign-born residents represented 10.4% of the population versus 17.5% statewide.
Of the 1,008 households registered in the 2000 census, 30.5% had minors living with them. Half were married couples living together. Households composed of non-families and of individuals represented 32.4% and 26.3%.
At the time of the 2000 census, the median age was 38 years. The principal age groups were 23.0% under 18, 32.7% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% 65 years of age or older.
The 2010 census data for highest educational level of residents age 25 and over reveal that the percentage with a bachelor’s degree or higher were below state levels (17.71% and 7.38% versus 20.65% and 12.05%). Less than 12% had not completed high school versus 36.36% who had. Those with some college or associate degree were 26.57%.
The major industries in which males engaged from 2005 to 2009 were Manufacturing (17%), Construction (13%), and Administrative and support and waste management services (11%). Females worked in Retail trade (18%), Health care and social assistance (15%), and Accommodation and food services (11%).
