Cliffside Park Borough was founded in 1895 from portions of Ridgefield Township. It is a small suburban community situated atop the Hudson River, providing unique vistas of the River and New York City skyline. Conveniently located between the George Washington Bridge and the Lincoln Tunnel, about 32% of its residents commute in the daytime.

Its territory of 0.963 square miles is very densely populated by 23,549 people, as of the 2010 census. There were 10,665 housing units, with an estimated median value of $450,152 in 2009 as per City-data. The January 2011 cost of living index was 29.0% higher than the national average.

The 2006-2010 American Community Survey of the Census Bureau estimated (with a 7%-10% margin of error) that the median household income was $67,856 and the median family income $80,856. Males had a median income of $53,529 versus $52,134 for females. The per capita income was $36,157 (All the figures are in 2010 inflation-adjusted dollars.) About 10.5% of the population lived below the poverty line, including 13.2% of minors and 12.4% of seniors.

The most frequent ancestries are Italian (21.9%), Irish (7.0%), German (5.2%), Polish (3.6%), and Russian (3.4%). As of the 2010 census, 79.11% of the population was White, 28.41% Hispanic or Latino, 23.78% Asian, and 3.29% African American. Foreign-born residents presence is significantly above state average (43.3% versus 17.5%). The majority are from Asia (15.5%), Europe (13.8% Europe) and Latin America (13.3%).

Of the almost 10,000 households registered in the 2010 census, 23.6% had minors living with them. Married couples living together represented 44.8%. Households composed of non-families and of individuals were 37.9% and 31.6%. The median age was 40.5 years. The rate of minors and seniors was almost the same (17.2% and 17.5%).

The 2010 census data for highest educational level of residents age 25 and over reveal that the percentages with a bachelor’s or graduate degree were above state levels (21.67% and 14.07% versus 20.65% and 12.05%). Almost 30.0% had completed high school versus 16.87% who had not. Those with some college or associate degree were 21.86%.

From 2005 to 2009 males engaged in Retail trade (13%), Construction (12%), Manufacturing (10%), and Finance and insurance (8%). Females worked in Health care and social assistance (15%), Educational services (15%), and Retail trade (12%).
