Freehold Raceway will be hosting the township’s Independence Day Concert & Fireworks this year, starting at 5:30 PM.
This tradition has been long-standing for downtown Freehold and one of our favorites to celebrate. This is the sixteenth year that Downtown Freehold has hosted it, after the tradition almost vanished.
The Rock and Roll Chorus will kick off the Fourth of July celebration at 6:00 pm and welcome the expected-20,000 guests. At 8:15 pm, Turnstyles will hit the stage until 10:30.
The bands will be singing classics from Billy Joel, John Mellancamp, and of course, Bruce Springsteen. It would not be a proper Freehold celebration if the town didn’t sing Springsteen’s “My Hometown”, a song written about our small-town charm.
The firework show will begin after dark, when the town will quietly reflect on the history that’s on their grounds.
As a part of the original 13 colonies, New Jersey has rooted American history. Freehold was founded before the first Independence Day Celebration, way back in 1650. It was one of the first townships in Monmouth County.
On Freehold ground lays Monmouth Battlefield, where on June 28, 1778, George Washington led an attack on the last British troops that were retreating back to New York. It was one of the largest battles in the Revolutionary war.
As a community member of Freehold, I am proud to celebrate our American freedom with you all. Be sure to remember all of those who have served to protect our freedom. From the Law Office of Anthony Vecchio, I hope to see you all there!
