Labor Day is a great reminder of the social and economic achievement made by American workers, including those living right here in Freehold, New Jersey.

As a little history, the holiday has been an official federal holiday in the United States for 120 years. New York celebrated the first Labor Day on September 5, 1882, but it wasn’t recognized in the United States by local governments until 1885 and 1886, with five states observing Labor Day an official holiday soon after. Another 26 states followed, and on June 28, 1894, Congress passed a law declaring Labor Day an official federal holiday. Under the Act, Labor Day falls on the first Monday of September each year.
