The reports included 2 rapes, 3 robberies, 17 assaults, 53 burglaries, 112 incidents of domestic violence, and 44 cases of police force.

Jefferson Township Info
Jefferson, named after President Thomas Jefferson, was established as a township in 1804 from portions of Pequannock and Roxbury Townships. It encompasses about 41 square miles, including Lake Hopatcong, the largest state’s fresh water lake.
More than 21,000 people made Jefferson their home, 18% rural, as per the 2000 census. The population density was very high at 485 persons per square mile. There were 5,448 families and 7,527 housing units. The percentage of renters was lower than the state average (9% versus 34%). Unofficial 2008 data shows that the median contract rent for apartments was $173 (versus $935 in the state) and the median house or condo value was $160,149.
As of the 2000 census, the median family income was $76,974. Males had a median income 35% higher than females ($51,359 versus $37,849). The per capita incomewas $27,950. The median household income was $68,837. About 2.4% of the population was below the poverty line.
At the time of the 2010 census, the median age was 40.9 compared to 37 years in 2000. The major age groups, as per the 2000 census, were under 18 (26.9%), from 25 to 44 (33.8%), and from 45 to 64 (25.2%).
The ancestries reported in the 2000 census were Italian (25.7%), Irish (22.9%), German (21.7%), English (11.6%), and Polish (10.0%). Currently, there are only three foreign-born residents, all from Thailand.
A comparison of the racial and ethnic composition in the 2000 and 2010 census reveals an increase in the Black (from 0.83% to 1.6%), Asian (from 1.07% to 4.6%) and Hispanic or Latino (from 3.41% to 6.5%) populations. This results in a decrease of the White population, from 96.14% to 90.6%.
Of the 7,131 households registered in the 2000 census, 38.8% had minors living with them. Married couples living together represented 65.5%. Households composed of non-families and of individuals accounted for 23.6% and 18.5%.
The highest educational level of the population aged 25 and over as per the 2000 census shows that 32.9% completed high school (includes equivalency). Those with some college or associate degree were 28.9%. Holders of a Bachelor’s degree represented 20.7% (versus 18.8% in the state). Those with a graduate degree were 7.1% (versus 11.0% in the state).
