The principal ancestries are Italian (16.9%), Polish (11.4%), Irish (10.6%), German (9.1%), and English (6.1%). The racial and ethnic composition, as per the 2000 census, was 79.22% White, 9.28% Black or African American, 7.91% Asian, and 4.61% Hispanic or Latino. The most common places of birth for foreign-born residents are India (16%), Poland (12%), and China, excluding Hong Kong and Taiwan (7%).

According to the 2000 census, male median income was about 47% higher than that of females ($56,681 versus $38,468). The per capita income was $33,120. The median household income was $67,959 and the median family income was $82,704. As of a 2008 estimate, these figures had risen to $86,730 and $100,506, respectively. Approximately 4.9% of the population lived below the poverty line.

Rounded 2010 figures for highest educational level of residents age 25 and over reveal that only 8.00% had not completed high school versus 19.00% who had. Those with some college and an associate degree represented 21.00%. Almost 30% had a bachelor’s degree 21.00% statewide. Holders of a graduate degree were 26.00% versus 12.00% statewide.
