The 2006-2010 American Community Survey of the Census Bureau estimated (with a margin of error of up to 30%) that the median household income was $101,964 and the median family income $126,985. Males had a median income 67% higher than females ($88,438 versus $52,950). The per capita income was $53,260. (All the figures are in 2010 inflation-adjusted dollars). Approximately 8.0% of families and 16.1% of the population lived below the poverty level (including 10.9% of minors and 32.7% of seniors).
Foreign-born residents rate is significantly above the state average (38.7% versus 17.5%). As of the 2010 census, 56.35% of the population was White, 2.08% African American, and 5.98% Hispanic or Latino of any race. Asians accounted for 38.52%. Of these, 20.36% are of Korean ancestry (10th highest percentage countrywide and 8th highest statewide). Chinese descendants represented 8.9% (3rd highest percentage anywhere in the state), and those of Japanese origin are 2.91% (5th highest percentage anywhere in the state). Asian Indians account for 5.7%.
Of the households recounted in the 2010 census, 30.7% had minors living with them. Households composed of married couples living together were 73.1% versus 8.2% headed by a female with no husband present. The median age was 47.2 years. Minors represented 21.5% and seniors 24.1%.
The 2010 census data for highest educational level of residents age 25 and over revealed that the percentages with a bachelor’s or graduate degree were significantly above state levels (30.17%% and 25.11% versus 20.65% and 12.05%). Less than 6.0% had not completed high school versus 20.43% who had. Those with some college or associate degree were 18.77%.
