The Police Department was established in 1881 with several residents acting as volunteers. The first officer was hired in 1891. Today, the department totals 23 law-enforcement employees including 17 sworn full time police officers, counting two detectives.
The N.J. State Police Uniform Crime registered 225 major crimes in 2010. This results in a crime rate per 1,000 residents of 46.2 and a violent rate of 3.5. There were no murders or bias crimes. The reports included 2 rapes, 9 robberies, 6 assaults, 33 burglaries, 56 incidents of domestic violence, and 23 cases of police force. Additionally, unofficial data, not considering bias crimes, domestic violence or police force, show 166 thefts, 9 motor vehicle thefts, and no arsons.
Monmouth Beach – New Jersey
The 2010 data for highest educational level of residents age 25 and over reveal that 13.98% did not complete high school versus 39.96% who did. Those with some college or associate’s degree represented 26.75%. Holders of a bachelor’s degree were 13.93% versus 20.65% statewide. Those with a graduate degree were 5.39% versus 12.05% statewide.
From 2005 to 2009, males engaged in retail trade (18%), construction (17%), and manufacturing (10%). Females worked in health care and social assistance (27%), finance and insurance (11%) and educational services (10%).
