The Freehold Township Police Department consists of three sections: The Patrol Division, The Investigation Division, and The Services Division. The Patrol Division is on active duty all day and night responding to all matters. The Investigation Division focuses primarily on criminal investigations including matters related to Juveniles. The Services Division is where you will find the Records and Communication Bureaus. This is the center where all calls are serviced and records are maintained and filed.
The New Jersey State Police Uniform Crime Unit reported 1,100 key crimes in 2010. This results in a crime rate of approximately 30 and a violent rate of 1 for every 1,000. The findings consisted of 5 rapes, 14 robberies, 18 assaults, 97 burglaries, 284 cases of domestic violence, 9 prejudice crimes and 71 cases of police force. There were not any homicides reported.
The Freehold Municipal Court is located at 1 Municipal Plaza, Freehold, New Jersey 07728. The Honorable Judge Thomas F. X. Foley holds court sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8:00 am and 1:30 pm. Arraignments only take place the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm unless court is in session. Freehold Township is located in Monmouth County, New Jersey about 60 miles from New York City. Freehold was originally created in 1693 and was formally incorporated as a township in 1798. Being such a huge area, many towns were formed from sections of Freehold Township, those towns are now known as Colts Neck, Marlboro, Manalapan, Upper Freehold Township, Millstone, and Jackson Township.
According to the 2010 United States Census Report approximately 36,000 people reside in the Township of Freehold, which is about a 40 square mile area. The number of households and families that live here has increased from 10,814 and 8,283 in 2000 to 12,557 and 8,382 in 2009, in that order.
The famous 1778 Battle of Monmouth was fought at Monmouth Battlefield State Park in Freehold. The surrounding park areas near the park are still used for farming and currently have many orchards that are sesonally popular. Battleview Orchards and Wemrock Orchards host strawberry picking, pumpkin picking, hay rides, and make home made baked pies for sale all year round. Although Monmouth Battlefield State Park preserved its field it is also now used for recreation as well. There are many open spaces for picnicing, trails for hiking, several playgrounds, and trails for horseback riding. There are a few other recreational facilities located in Freehold such as Turkey Swamp Park and The Michael J. Tighe Park. The Henry Hudson Trail also has an entrance begining in Freehold.
