The major ancestries were Irish (18.6%), Italian (17.2%), German (9.6%), and English (7.0%). As of the 2000 census, the racial and ethnic composition was 88.63% White, 5.46% African American, 3.90% Asian, and 3.81% Hispanic or Latino. More than half of the 2,336 foreign-born residents are naturalized citizens. Their most common places of birth are India (9%), United Kingdom (8%), and Colombia (8%).

Of the 8,116 households recounted in the 2000 census, 31.2% had minors living with them. Married couples living together were 64.6%. Households composed of non-families and of individuals represented 26.7% and 21.8%.

At the time of the 2000 census, the median age was 41 years. The age breakdown was 22.7% under 18, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 27.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% 65 years of age or older. For every 100 adult females, there were 64.9 adult males.

The highest educational level reached by the population aged 25 and over in 2010 shows that 7.99% had not completed high school versus 17.86% who had. Those with some college or associate degree were 17.77%. Holders of a Bachelor’s degree represented 37.24% (versus 31.17% in the state and 17.52% nationwide). Those with a graduate degree were 25.22% (versus 12.05% in the state and 9.84% nationwide).

The major industries in which males engage are P, scientific, and technical services (19%), Finance and insurance (13%), Construction (7%), and Health care (6%). Females work in Educational services (16%), Professional, scientific, and technical services (16%), and Health care (14%).
