In 2010, the Police Department consisted of 14 full-time law enforcement employees, including 13 police officers.
The N.J. State Police Uniform Crime registered 54 major crimes in 2010. This results in a crime rate per 1,000 residents of 10.7 and a violent rate of 0.6. There were no murders, rapes or bias crimes. The reports included 1 robbery, 2 assaults, 11 burglaries, 59 incidents of domestic violence, and 14 cases of police force.
Independent data, which does not consider bias crimes, domestic violence or police force, show 40 thefts and no auto thefts or arsons.
Mount Arlington – New Jersey
Mount Arlington was created as a borough in 1980 from portions of Hanover Township From 1891 to 1894, additional land was obtained from Roxbury Township. It is situated on the southeast shore of Lake Hopatcong, the largest man-made lake in the state and also a principal recreational resource.
Its territory covers almost 3 square miles, a fourth of which is water. As of the 2010 census, 5,050 persons made their home here. There were about 1,200 families and some 2,000 housing units, as per the 2000 census. The unofficial 2009 estimate for median house or condo value was $338,561. The January 2011 cost of living index was 15.6% higher than the national average.
The major ancestries are Irish (24.7%), Italian (24.2%), German (23.8%), English (9.0%), and Polish (6.8%). The racial and ethnic composition, as of the 2000 census, was 91.42% White, 4.55% Hispanic or Latino, 3.82% Asian, and 1.82% African American. The percentage of foreign-born residents is below the state average (9.8% versus 17.5%).
Of the almost 2,000 households as of the 2000 census, 28.3% had minors living with them. More than half were married couples living together. Households composed of non-families and of individuals accounted for 34.2% and 27.9%.
The median age was 38 years, as of the 2000 census. The age composition was 22.1% under 18, 35.5% from 25 to 44, and 26.5% from 45 to 64.
As per the 2000 census, the median family income was $79,514. Males had a median income 31% higher than females ($53,049 versus $40,417). The median household income was $67,213 and the per capita income $32,222. Unofficial 2009 estimates place these at $85,465 and $40,172. About 3.3% of the population was below the poverty level.
The 2010 census data for highest educational level of residents age 25 and over reveal that the percentage with a bachelor’s degree or higher were 27.28% and 13.63% versus 20.65% and 12.05% statewide. Only 7.05% had not completed high school versus 26.14% who had.. Those with some college or associate degree were 26.91%.
From 2005 to 2009, males engaged in Manufacturing (21%), Retail trade (15%), Professional, scientific, and technical services (13%), and Educational services (9%). Females worked in Professional, scientific, and technical services (20%), Health care and social assistance (16%), Manufacturing (15%), and Educational services (12%).
