Because of the excellent educational institutes in the U.S., many foreign students wish to come to the country to attend school from abroad. For many, the F-1 visa is the best option to do so.

Anyone seeking to come to the United States with a student visa must be seeking to travel to the country to pursue an academic course of study in an institution that is recognized by the United States government. The foreign student must also have a valid educational reason for traveling to the United States and must also plan on going to school full-time. In other words, you cannot be a part-time student on an F-1 Visa. The student is allowed to remain in the United States so long as he or she is attending school. The F-1 student visa is usually issued at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate in the student’s native country.

Can I travel with an F-1 visa? Foreign students are allowed to enter the United States more than once if they hold a valid F-1 Student Visa.

However, it is crucial that the F-1 Student Visa holders possess all the necessary paperwork and documents in order to avoid any hassle at the U.S. port of entry.

Their passport must also be valid beyond their intended stay in order to be granted entry. Of course, F-1 Visa recipients are allowed to travel freely within the within the United States.

Can I work with a student visa? F-1 visa holders are allowed to work on campus so long as they are still enrolled in school. In addition, F-1 Visa holders can apply for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) to gain practical vocational experience in their field of study while attending school.

F-1 holders might also utilize a program known as Optional Practical Training (OPT) after their degree is completed as a full time employee.
