Before Northvale was named Northvale, one of its former names was Carrieville. It was created from the outstanding sections of Harrington Township in 1916, which was dissolved seven years later.
Its territory encompasses 1.298 square miles which was home to 4,640 residents as of the 2010 census. There were 1,265 families and 1,635 housing units. City-data estimated the 2009 median house or condo value at $517,038 versus $348,300 statewide. It also reported the March 2012 cost of living index as 22.4% higher than the national average.
As of the 2000 census, the median family income was $81,153. Males had a median income 35% higher than females ($50,901 versus $37,563). The median household income was $72,500 and the per capita income $28,206. According to City-data, these had risen in 2009 to $88,259 (versus $68,342 statewide) and $34,460, respectively.
