This results in a crime rate per 1,000 residents of 14.15 and a violent rate of 1.1. The reports included 2 murders, 3 rapes, 25 robberies, 40 assaults, 153 burglaries, 434 incidents of domestic violence, 6 bias crimes, and 131 cases of police force.

Old Bridge – New Jersey

Old Bridge Township was originally formed in 1864 and encompassed a larger area. The present-day 42 square miles that comprise the township separated from South Amboy in 1969. It was called Madison Township until 1975, when the name was changed to the Township of Old Bridge.

In 2005 and 2007, Money Magazine listed it as a contender for the title of the one of the best places to live in the country.

According to the 2000 census, there were 60,456 inhabitants. There were close to 21,500 households and almost 16,000 families. An unofficial 2009 figure estimated the median house or condo value at $366,654. The January 2011 cost of living index was 21.3% higher than the national average.

As of the 2007 American Community Survey 2007 estimate, the median family income was $100,171 and the median household income $80,641. As of the 2000 census, males had a median income 46% higher than females ($51,978 versus $35,462). The per capita income was $26,814. Unofficial 2009 estimates placed the median household income and the per capita income at $94,969 and $35,150. Approximately 4.2% of the population was living below the poverty line.

The most common ancestries are Italian (29.7%), Irish (22.7%), Polish (11.3%), German (11.2%), and Russian (4.2%). As of the 2000 census, the racial and ethnic composition was 79.48% White, 10.82% Asian, 10.20% Hispanic or Latino, and 5.30% African American. There are close to 3,500 foreign-born residents, a percentage close to the state average (14.6% versus 17.5%).

At the time of the 2000 census, the median age was 36 years. Individuals from 25 to 44 years represented 33.6%). About half of the population was composed of those under 18 (25.9%) and those from 45 to 64 years (22.9%).

More than a third of the almost 21,500 of the households recounted in the 2000 census had minors living with them. More than half were made up of married couples living together. Households composed of non-families and of individuals represented 25.6% and 21.1%.

The 2010 data for highest educational level of residents age 25 and over reveal that 7.16% did not complete high school versus 31.94% who did. Those with some college or associate’s degree represented 27.29%. Holders of a bachelor’s degree were 24.30% (versus 20.65% statewide). Those with a graduate degree were 9.30% (versus 12.05% statewide).

From 2005 to 2009, males engaged in transportation and warehousing (11%), finance and insurance (10%), construction, manufacturing and retail trade (10% each). Females worked in health care and social assistance (21%), educational services (13%), retail trade (12%) and finance and insurance (9%).
