Parisippany – New Jersey

Parsippany-Troy Hills Township, usually called Parsippany, was established as a township in 1928 from portions of Hanover Township. It is the most populated community in Morris County. Its 25.4 square miles territory is home to 50,649 inhabitants as of the 2000 census. The population density is very high at more than 2,100 people per square mile.

The 2000 census recounted 13,167 families and 20,066 housing units. An unofficial figure estimated the median house or condo value at $81,430 versus $364,100 in the state.

Of the 19,624 households registered in the 2000 census, 29.5% had children under 18 living with them. More than half the households were composed of married couples living together. Those made up of non-families and of individuals were 32.9% and 27.1%, respectively.

The most common ancestries cited by the residents are German (64.2%), American (13.2%), Irish (9.4%), Swiss (9.4%), and Norwegian (3.8%). The racial composition is presently White Non-Hispanic (69.7%), Asian (18.0%), Hispanic or Latino (7.0%), and Black: (3.0%).

The median age was 38 years, at the time of the 2000 census. The age breakdown was 21.0% under the age of 18, 35.2% from 25 to 44, and 25.9% from 45 to 64.

As of the 2000 census, the median household income was $68,133, and the median family income $81,041 (these figures had risen to $83,227 and $102,714 respectively as of a 2007 estimate). Males had a median income 32% higher than females ($51,175 versus $38,641). The per capita income was $32,220. About 4.0% of the population was below the poverty line.

The 2010 census data for highest educational level of residents age 25 and over reveal that the percentage with a bachelor’s degree or higher were above national levels (29.58% and 14.67% versus 17.52% and 9.84%). Less than 9% had not completed high school versus 26.93% who had. Those with some college or associate degree were 20.10%.

The major industries in which the population engaged from 2005 to 2009 were Professional, scientific, and technical services (12% males and 10% females), Health care (12% females), Educational services (10% females), Finance and insurance, Construction and Chemicals (6% each males).
