Spring Lake – New Jersey
Spring Lake, usually known as the “Jewel of Jersey Shore”, is situated on the Atlantic Ocean. It was formed as a borough in 1892 from portions of Wall Township. In 1903, North Spring Lake was annexed to it. It has a total area of 1.7 square miles, of which 23.39% is water.
The 2010 census registered almost 3,000 residents, down from 3,567 in 2000. The percentage of females is high (53.7%). Less than 1,000 families lived here. There were 1,930 housing units. Unofficial 2009 estimates place the median house or condo value at was $938,929, up from $636,400 in 2000 (significantly above state average). The January 2011 cost of living index was 37.4% higher than the national average.
As of 2009 estimates, the median household income was $105,720 (significantly above state average). The per capita income was $75,029. Male median income was more than 50% higher than that of females ($88,924 versus $41,000). None of the families and only 2.6% of the population was below the poverty line.

From 2005 to 2009, males engaged in finance and insurance (16%), construction (15%), accommodation and food services (11%), and professional, scientific and technical services (10%). Physicians and surgeons were 9% versus less than 1% statewide. Females worked in educational services (19%), professional, scientific and technical services (17%), and retail trade (16%).
