Voorhees Township was established as such in 1899 from areas of Waterford Township. It is a suburb of the Greater Philadelphia Metropolitan Area. Its territory comprises 11.644 square miles, very densely populated at a rate of more than 2,500 persons per square mile.
As of the 2010 census, the township had 29,131 inhabitants. There were 7,433 families and 12,260 housing units. City-data places the percentage of renters as below the state average (23% versus 34%) For 2008, this source estimated the median contract rent apartments at $1,075 (versus $935 statewide) and the median house or condo value at $379,572.
The 2006-2010 American Community Survey of the Census Bureau estimated (with a 5%-9% margin of error) that the median household income was 82,146 and the median family income was $107,000. Males had a median income of $72,430 (versus $51,322). The per capita income was $44,169) (All figures are in 2010-inflation adjusted dollars). About 6.0% of the population lived below the poverty level.
The most common ancestries are Italian (19.0%), Irish (13.0%), German (9.3%), and English (6.0%). The rate of foreign-born residents (64% of them naturalized citizens, and 32% from India) is below the estate average (13.4% versus 17.5%). As of the 2010 census, 71.77% of the population was White, 8.70% African American, 16.13% Asian, and 3.43% Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the households registered in the 2010 census, 2010, 30.0% had minors living with them. Married couples living together represented 53.8%. Households composed of non-families and of individuals were 35.2% and 29.8%. Those with a senior citizen living alone totaled 12.8%. Minors accounted for 22% and seniors for 16.5%. The median age was 42.6 years. For every 100 adult females here were 86.8 adult males.
The 2010 census data for highest educational level of residents age 25 and over reveal that the percentages with a bachelor’s or graduate degree were significantly above state levels (28.17% and 21.63% versus 20.65% and 12.05%). Less than 7.00% had not completed high school versus 20.41% that had. Those with some college or associate degree were 22.86%.
