The first settlers arrived in the area of Wyckoff in 1720. It was created as a township in 1926. Its territory comprises 6.607 square miles, which as of the 2010 census had 16,696 residents. There were 4,641 families and 5,827 housing units City-data estimated the 2009 median house or condo value at $743,544 versus $348,300 statewide. The March 2012 cost of living index was 25.6% higher than the national average.

The 2006-2010 American Community Survey of the Census Bureau estimated (with a 6%-15% margin of error) that the median household income was $145,366 and the median family income was $163,034. Males had a median income 74% higher than females ($111,950 versus $64,148). The per capita income was $64,476. (All figures are in 2010-inflation adjusted dollars). Less than 2.5% lived below the poverty level.

The most common ancestries are Irish (24.2%), Italian (22.9%), German (13.8%), English (10.4%), Dutch (8.3%), and Polish (6.8%). The rate of foreign-born residents was below the state level (9.3% versus 17.5%). As of the 2010 census, 93.53% of the population was White, 4.23% Asian, and 4.41% Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the households registered in the 2010 census, 40.6% had minors living with them. Married couples living together represented 73.2%. Households composed of non-families and of individuals were 17.8% and 16.1%, respectively. Minors accounted for 27.6% and seniors for 16.6%. The median age was 44.3 years. For every 100 adult females, there were 88.0 adult males.

The 2010 census data for highest educational level of residents age 25 and over reveal that the percentages with a bachelor’s or graduate degree were significantly above state levels (35.24% and 24.48% versus 20.65% and 12.05%). Less than 5.00% had not completed high school versus 17.84% that had. Those with some college or associate degree were 18.33%.

From 2005 to 2009, males engaged in Finance and insurance (15%), Manufacturing (14%), Professional, scientific and technical services (14%), and Construction (9%). Females worked in Educational services (19%), Health care and social assistance (18%), Retail trade (10%), and Professional, scientific and technical services (8%).
